8.1                DEFINITION

8.1.1           The word “stock” will mean factory produced-OEM-parts and/or equipment of the same manufacturer as the front clip being used where chassis components or rulings are concerned.

8.1.2           Where the engine components are concerned the word “stock” will mean factory produced-OEM-parts and/or equipment of the same manufacturer as the engine block being used.

 

8.2                MINIMUM WEIGHT – post Event. Declared weight will be displayed at the top left corner of the windshield.

8.2.1           Minimum total base weight as weighed with the driver will be 3,050 lbs.

8.2.2           All cars will be subject to the following additions or deducts from the base weight.

8.2.2.1                        Plus 50 lbs. for any engine with a roller camshaft.

8.2.2.2                        Plus 50 lbs. for any non-OEM steel head.

8.2.2.3                        Plus 50 lbs. for port work on any head.

8.2.2.4                        Plus 50 lbs. for any engine with displacement over 406cid.

8.2.2.5                        Minus 50 lbs. for any 604 GM crate engine, must be approved with seals in place. GM part # 88958604

8.2.2.6                        Minus 100 lbs for any 602 GM crate engine, must be approved with seals in place. GM part # 88958602

8.2.2.7                        Plus 65 lbs. for multi piston front brake calipers

8.2.3           Maximum left side weight percentage as weighed with the driver will be 57.00% for all combinations.

 

8.3                ENGINE

8.3.1           Any stock production engine may be used regardless of manufacture of body or chassis. Cast iron only.

8.3.2           Engine parts may be substituted from other years of the same manufacturer.

8.3.3           Crankshaft must be stock or stock type replacement of similar material. After-market applications approved.

8.3.4           Any steel connecting rod approved.

8.3.5           Piston design is optional. After-market brand optional.

8.3.6           Camshaft of any manufacture approved. Cam button assembly approved.

8.3.7           Engine of any displacement will be approved, subject to rule 8.2

8.3.8           Valve train optional. Valve size not to exceed maximum factory specs. Springs, keepers, retainers and pushrods optional.

8.3.9           Rocker arms are optional, pedestal mount only. Shaft mount rockers allowed only in stock design. No After-market shaft mount rockers allowed. Ratios optional. Poly-locks and stud girdles approved.

8.3.10       Oil pan optional, no dry sump systems. Oil filtering system optional.

8.3.11       GM engines must not be located any further back in the engine compartment as to allow the left upper ball joint to be more that 1” forward of the #1 spark plug at any time. Ford and Mopar engines must not be located any further back in the engine compartment as to allow the upper left ball joint to be more that 2” forward of the #1 spark plug at any time.

8.3.12       All engines must start under their own power. Starter type optional.

8.3.13       If an alternator is used it must be stock type.

8.3.14       Mechanical fuel pump only.

8.3.15       Air cleaner or protective covering over butterflies required.

8.3.16       Any single carb intake manifold allowed.

8.3.17       After-market dampners allowed.

8.3.18       Mechanical water pumps only, aluminum approved.

8.3.19       Cooling fan type optional, pulley system optional. Must be shrouded minimum three sides. (top and sides)

8.3.20       Ignition will be stock “type” camshaft driven distributor only. Aftermarket approved. No magnetos, MSD or after-market performance ignition boxes. Modules, points and coils optional.

 

8.4                HEADS

8.4.1           Heads will be un ported stock steel OEM unless otherwise noted.

8.4.2           Aluminum heads approved only in GM Crate application, all seals must be in place. GM part # 88958604

8.4.3           Bowtie heads or factory performance applications allowed with out penalty.

8.4.4           All heads are subject to weight additions or deducts as per rule 8.2

8.4.5           Machining on OEM heads for larger springs and screw-in studs approved.

 

8.5                CARBURETION

8.5.1           Approved Carburetor will be the Holley 4412 two barrel only. Must fit the GO, NO GO gauges. Removal of choke horn is approved.

8.5.2           Two throttle return springs required.

 

8.6                TRANSMISSION – FLYWHEEL - CLUTCH

8.6.1           Must be of like manufacturer for engine and bolt up in stock fashion. Must have at least two working gears, including reverse.

8.6.2           Automatics are optional. Cooler and lines must be located outside of the drivers compartment. Approved tranny blanket recommended. Must use torque converter.

8.6.3           Approved scatter shield or NHRA type blow-proof bell housing recommended.

8.6.4           No aluminum flywheels or pressure plates allowed. No racing clutches. Automatics must run torque converters. Entire assembly must be stock type. Minimum diameter of clutch disc is 10.4 inches. Hydraulic throw-out systems approved.

 

8.7                REAR END

8.7.1           Must be steel-tubed. Any manufacturer. Floaters recommended. Locking devices optional.

 

8.8                BODY SPECIFICATIONS

8.8.1           1955 though current American made sedans, coupes, or pick-ups. Windshield posts are mandatory. All bodies and body panels shall be maintained or replaced as needed to keep stock appearing look, as approved by Officials or Promoter.

8.8.2           Body Material optional. All panels must be securely welded, bolted or riveted to chassis on stock or fabricated mounts.

8.8.3           All glass will be a minimum 1/8” thick lexan. Windshield recommended. Must have at least one diagonal bar in the windshield opening. These “tire bars” are to help prevent large items from entering the drivers compartment.

8.8.4           Rear window optional, must have two (2) 1/8” x 1” (minimum) straps located outside the lexan. Left side window must have drivers window net in place, fitted with seatbelt connector for easy release. Right side glass not approved unless quick release is tech approved.

8.8.5           Air cleaner clearance may be cut in hood. Opening must be clean and neat appearing.  Cold air boxes are approved. No ram air.

8.8.6           It is recommended that bumpers be fabricated tube steel type and used under after-market or factory plastic front and/or rear bumper covers. Any exposed bumpers will be stock automotive type.

8.8.7           Nose of car must be enclosed with neat appearing sheet metal, plastic, aluminum or factory or aftermarket grille piece. Rear of car shall be enclosed in the same manner as the front. No holes allowed in rear from deck lid to bumper.

8.8.8           Exterior nerf bars optional. Nerfing not to extend more than 1 ½” past the body skin at any time, ends must be capped or welded shut. Nerfing allowed on either side, between front and rear tires only. 1” O.D. round or maximum 1” X 2” square tubing is the only approved material for exterior nerfing.

8.8.9           Rear spoiler allowed. Spoiler not to exceed 60” in width and 6.5” in height.

8.8.10       Hood and deck lid must be securely fastened at a minimum of four points for the hood and a minimum of 2 points for the deck lid. Must be removable for officials.

8.8.11       No excessive trimming of fenders or quarter panel will be allowed. Keep it clean and respectable.

8.8.12       Front and rear firewalls may be altered from stock or may be fabricated from minimum 20 gauge sheet metal. Floor pans may be altered or replaced with 20 gauge sheet metal. Interior sheet metal may be fabricated. All penetrations must be sealed. Driver must be shielded from the engine, transmission, rear end, fuel cell, exhaust system and the racing surface.

 

8.9                CHASSIS

8.9.1           FRONT CLIP

8.9.1.1      Stock front clip mandatory.

8.9.1.2      At least 20” inches or frame forward of the front spindle must remain stock. (tech discretion) The stock frame section must extend rearward to at least the engine/bell housing seam.

8.9.1.3      Torsion bar front clips approved.

8.9.2           FRAME. It is recommended that any fabrication or modification made to the frame be done with 2” x 3” square tubing with a minimum wall thickness of .090”. Fabricated frame designs may be either perimeter or straight rail design. Uni-body cars may tie front and rear frame sections together.

8.9.3           WHEELBASE. Minimum wheel base will be 105”

8.9.4           TRACK WIDTH. Maximum track width will be 69” as measured at spindle height. (center of tire to center of tire OR outside of right side wall to inside of left sidewall)

8.9.5           FRONT SUSPENSION. The front suspension must be original equipment type for manufacturer of front clip being used unless otherwise noted in these rules.

8.9.5.1      Lower control arm mounting points may not be relocated.

8.9.5.2      Upper control arm mounting points may be fabricated and location is optional.

8.9.5.3      Upper a-arms must be steel. Type optional.

8.9.5.4      Stock lower control arms must be used.

8.9.5.5      Weight jackers approved.

8.9.5.6      Front coil springs must me used in stock location. Minimum diameter is 5” O.D..

8.9.6           SPINDLES. May be stock or after-market.

8.9.7           STEERING. Only stock steering components are permitted unless otherwise noted.

8.9.7.1               Power steering pump may be stock or after-market.

8.9.7.2               Steering Box will be stock or stock replacement type for front clip being used.

8.9.7.3               Heavy duty or aftermarket tie rods and steering links approved.

8.9.7.4               It is recommended that fabricated steering shafts using spherical rod end bearings be a minimum of 5/8”.

8.9.8           RACK & PINION steering in NOT APPROVED, unless suppled by OEM on the stock front clip being used. And only then may a OEM rack & pinion steering system be used on that stock front clip.

8.9.9           SWAYBARS. Optional. Mounting optional.

8.9.10       SHOCKS. Non adjustable steel body racing shocks are approved. No Aluminum.

8.9.11       REAR SUSPENSION. Rear suspension may be coil or leaf spring. Minimum 5” O.D. on coil springs. Four point, three point, truck arm, and torque arm suspensions are approved. Axel damper shocks are permitted. Coil-over eliminators approved. No spring rod trailing arms allowed. Coil-over units are permitted on torque arm only.

 

8.10            ROLL CAGE

8.10.1       A six point roll cage is mandatory. The roll cage must be mounted to the frame.

8.10.2       Main bars must be a minimum 1 ½” black pipe, 2” O.D. maximum, with a minimum 1/8” wall thickness, welded or securely bolted to the frame. Braced not less than half the height of the main bar back to the frame. At least one diagonal brace in the main bar. Minimum three sissy bars on the drivers side and two on the right passenger side. A minimum 1 ¾” O.D. roll bar tubing or manufactured roll cage kits are recommended. Exhaust tubing and galvanized pipe not allowed.

8.10.3       Gussets are required on all 90 degree joints.

8.10.4       UNIBODY

8.10.4.1  Roll cage must be securely fastened to the floorboards by welding 1/8” thick minimum plate, 4” x 8” or 6” x 6” on top and/or underneath the floorboards using 3/8” bolts per mounting. Cage may be directly integrated into the sub frame at all main points with full circumference welds.

8.10.4.2  Front hoops recommended. Radiator support may be integrated in the hoop.

 

8.11            BRAKES. Mandatory, must stop vehicle on demand.

8.11.1       Front brakes optional, see rule 8.2.2.7

8.11.2       Front rotors will be stock type.

8.11.3       Rear brakes may be stock or after-market type.

8.11.4       After-market master cylinders are approved.

8.11.5       Front to rear bias adjusters allowed.

 

8.12            BATTERY. The battery must be securely mounted. between the frame rails and in front of the rear-end. If the battery is mounted in the driver’s compartment, then it must be mounted securely in a marine type battery box. Tech approval required.

 

8.13            DRIVESHAFT

8.13.1       Drive shaft must be painted white.

8.13.2       Aluminum or composite allowed.

8.13.3       See also rule 3.2.10 Minimum specifications.

 

8.14            EXHAUST SYSTEM

8.14.1            See rule 3.2.4 Minimum specifications.

8.14.2           Any header or exhaust manifold approved.

8.14.3         Any portion of the exhaust system that is located inside the drivers cockpit, must be shielded to protect the driver.

 

8.15            FUEL SUPPLY

8.15.1        No exotic or alcohol based fuels allowed.

8.15.2       Commercially produced fuel cell is mandatory

8.15.3       Rubber fuel line passing through the driver’s compartment will be contained in conduit or pipe from front firewall to rear firewall.

8.15.4       See Minimum Specifications, SECTION 3

 

8.16            MIRRORS. Optional.

 

8.17            RADIATOR

8.17.1       Must mount near stock location in front of engine.

8.17.2       After-market aluminum allowed.

8.17.3       appropriate overflow tank required.

 

8.18            WHEELS. Ten inch maximum. Must be steel.

 

8.19            TIRES. The class tire is any 11" take-off slick, any brand. 8" or 10" treaded Goodyear Short Track Special may be purchased and run in new condition when available..

8.20            SEAT. Aluminum high back racing seat required. Must be securely fastened to the roll cage. Steel framework around seat recommended. Right side head support is recommended.

 

8.21            FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

8.21.1       Participant’s car must be equipped with a 2 ½ lb fire extinguisher within easy reach of the driver, must be full at all times and have a readable gauge.

8.21.2       Each participant must keep a second fire extinguisher in his/her pit area. Extinguisher must be a minimum 2 ½ lb.

 

8.22            SAFETY ITEMS- Go to Section 3

8.22.1       SEE SPEEDWAY MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS FOR ALL SAFETY ITEMS THAT ARE APPLICABLE TO YOUR CLASS

8.22.2       Left side window net must be fitted with a seatbelt connector for quick release.

 

8.23        PROTESTS.

8.24            REGISTRATION AND LICENSING (car #’s) See rule # 2.2

 

8.25            RADIOS

1)        One-way radios (scanners/ race scan) are required. Must be on race control channel at all times.  

2)        Two-way radios are permitted. Only if Driver is also monitoring race control.

Just off I-5 exit 123 in Roseburg, Oregon
